What is Sugar Awareness?
Sugar awareness is being aware of how much sugar is in your food.
That sugar can be natural, or added by food producers.
Added sugar is not just found in soft drinks, but also in fruit juices, baked goods, cereals, yogurt, and even salad dressings.


Why is added sugar bad for our health?
Added sugar contains a lot of calories, with no essential nutrients. It causes tooth decay, type 2 diabetes, and has been downplayed as a factor to obesity and other illnesses such as liver disease, heart disease, and inflammation.

What needs to be done?
Stricter regulation and guidelines need to be implemented into food labeling and how much sugar can be added to food products by Health Canada NOW
Health Canada needs to differentiate and provide labels between ADDED sugars and NATURAL sugars in teaspoons on all food and drink labels
Health Canada should make recommendations in terms of teaspoons or grams per day of sugar Canadians should consume in accordance to the guidelines set by the World Health Organization
